Services Sports Control Board defeats Chandigarh Olympic Association 2-0 in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A)

• Punjab’s convincing 11-1 win over Manipur

New Delhi 18 March 2014: In a stirring clash between Pool A contenders, Services Sports Control Board left Chandigarh Olympic Association behind 2-0 to harvest yet another victory in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow today.


Until the four crucial minutes in the second half of the game where Services Sports Control Board’s Md. Faheem Khan and Ved Prakhash Bhatt scored a goal each in the 47th and the 50th minute and led their team to a glorious 2-0 win, the match saw a sizzling struggle by both the teams to penetrate a goal and take the control of the match. Repeated attempts by both Services Sports Control Board and Chandigarh Olympic Association did no good to favour either of the competitors. The scores remained leveled at 0-0 by the end of the first half of the match. Alternatively, in the second half of the match, Services Sports Control Board’s Md. Faheem Khan converted a striking penalty corner in the 47th minute followed by Ved Prakhash Bhatt’s field goal in the 50th minute which helped in adding on to the lead and disarming Chandigarh Olympic Association 2-0.

In another match between Punjab and Manipur, Punjab had a convincing win of 11 goals as compared to Manipur’s 1 goal. It was Manipur who started the match with a goal in the 9th minute which the team converted through a penalty corner. It was Jayenta Meiti K who got the lone goal for the team. Post that it was Punjab’s match all through. Ajay Kumar of Punjab scored in the 13th minute which helped the team to equalize the scoreboard. Within a minute of the 1st goal Punjab score again in the 14th minute and this time it was Parvinder Singh who helped the team to take the lead. Punjab went to score 3 back to back goals in the 33rd, 34th and 35th minute. While the goals in the 33rd and 34th minute were field goals by Prabhdeep Singh and Parvinder Singh, the goal scored in the 35th minute was through penalty corner and which was successfully scored by Harpreet Singh. Going into the second half Punjab was leading 6 goals to 1.
The second half saw Punjab again dominating the session as they went on to score another 5 goals. The team scored two back to back goals in the 57th and 58th minute and taking the score to 10-1. The final goal by the team was scored by Harpreet Singh in the 60th minute which he again successfully converted through a penalty corner.
