To sensitize the little ones on the importance of community helpers in our daily life and in the society at large, the Pre-primary teachers of GIIS Noida organized an exhibition for the community helpers within the school premises. A special area was allocated to each member to display their tools and the students visited each booth to see the exhibits. The participants comprised of an electrician, a sweeper, a gardener, a cobbler, a guard, a rickshaw puller, a tailor and a carpenter. 

They introduced themselves to the students and explained to them the use of each tool and the importance of the work that they do. Through visual learning and interaction with the community helpers, the children were able to comprehend their work better and were engaged in various exercises.

 

Students learnt about the different jobs and responsibilities people have in our communities. The teachers spoke about the role of firemen and police officers who help to keep community members safe. Doctors, nurses and dentists  who help keep people healthy. Drivers and conductors who transport people from place to place. They were also introduced to the role of teachers and librarians who shape the minds of the generation.

 

The objective of this exhibition was to spread awareness in children about the people who help us, the tools they use and the problems we face without them and to make children aware and understand the importance of community helpers in our daily life.       

 

This activity gave the children an opportunity to become more involved with the community.

TRIO teacher Wins TCS World 10k Marathon

Bangalore, 19^th May, 2014: Vanessa Ruth Job, an Art Teacher from TRIO World School won the TCS World 10k Marathon under the women’s category age group of 20-30 held yesterday. Venessa came first in the marathon by completing it in 50 minutes 41 seconds.

Venessa underwent training for the marathon for a couple of months. Last year, she finished the marathon in one hour. This year she had set her mind in finishing it in 50 minutes.

“It’s great just to finish a marathon, but to win it is really special. Initially I was very nervous and excited. I had never anticipated I would get any title, but I not only reached my goal but also stood first under women’s category age group 20-30. It was truly an honour to be part of the race on behalf of TRIO World School. The support I received from the students and the staff was overwhelming” says Venessa Ruth.

 “Sports is an integral part of TRIO along with academics. We want to encouraging our kids about exercising and having a healthy lifestyle. We conduct extensive sports training at the school. NEW DELHI, May 6th, 2014: To further strengthen Indo-Pak's bond of friendship and peace, Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi invited 30 Indian students, participants of EXCHANGE FOR CHANGE 2013-2015 at Pakistan Embassy, New Delhi on Monday, April 28, 2014. EXCHANGE FOR CHANGE 2013-2015 is an initiative by Routes 2 Roots & The Citizens Archive of Pakistan in an attempt to foster friendship, change mindsets and bridge the gap across borders. Hon'ble Abdul Basit, High Commissioner, Pakistan High Commission invited the participating students of Exchange for Change program, with the a purpose to familiarize himself and the children about this program about Pakistan and put to rest the inquisitiveness of their neighboring country as well as judge for themselves the similarities of the cultures that the two nations share.


On the occasion, Indian students across 3 participating schools, Delhi Public School, Sushant Lok, Gurgaon, Bloom Public School, Vasant Kunj and Dev Samaj Modern School, Sukhdev Vihar, Okhla brainstormed their individual experiences with the High Commissioner, Mohammad Abdul Basit. The program aims at inculcating values and cultures amongst students of India & Pakistan towards each other by sowing the bond of similarities. High Commissioner Abdul Basit, while welcoming the students said that such exchanges between the youth of the two countries was important for the future of peace and stability between the two countries. The High Commissioner said that India and Pakistan were two major South Asian countries with immense potential' and resources and we needed to work jointly towards overcoming the challenges such as hunger, poverty, illiteracy and disease. The High Commissioner outlined that students should acquire the ability to shun stereotypes and look at things around them more objectively.

Farhan Akhtar @ GIIS Leadership Lecture Series

Global Indian International School (GIIS) hosted its GIIS Leadership Lecture Series on 14th April 2014 with Bollywood Super star Farhan Akhtar.


Other branches of Global Indian International School (GIIS) , interacted with the Indian film industry’s youth icon, Farhan Akhtar on Monday, 14th  April 2014.

The visit was a historic moment for the school as this was Farhan’s first visit to our school.

Excited to interact with students at GIIS, Farhan touched upon various topics raised by students during the interaction session; ranging from his inspiration behind making path-breaking films to his passion for music.

GIIS students from Noida Campus in a live video conference session asked questions to Farhan Akhtar and he explained to them with great ease. “Stay true to your goals and to listen to your inner voice.” He further advised students to “inculcate discipline and eventually everything will fall into place”, citing how it helped him in the success of his critically acclaimed and National award-winning directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai (2001).

Farhan Akhtar, as a role model for youth and achiever in the field of performing arts has influenced many young minds. Students were enthralled by his presence and success stories; learning lessons for their lives.

                 The Union Public Service Commission will be conducting the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I) 2014 at different venues located at 41 Centres throughout the country on 20.04.2014 (Sunday). The e-Admit Cards for the candidates have been uploaded on the Commission’s web-site http://www. upsc. gov. in, which may be down loaded.  Letters of rejection to the candidates stating reason (s) for rejection have already been sent through e-mail provided by the candidates.  If any applicant is not able to down load his e-Admit Card, he may contact UPSC Facilitation Counter on Telephone Nos. 011-23381125, 011-23385271 and 011-23098543 between (10:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M)   on working days during working hours. The candidate may also send fax message on Fax No. 011-23387310.   The candidate may note that no paper admit card will be issued.

Amrita Varsity joins GoI-Gates Foundation sanitation project

New Delhi, March 22: Amrita University today joined a league of six Indian innovators who would contribute to an ambitious health project in India, as the multi-campus research institute has been chosen to develop a self-proposed project which would ensure use of disease-free water in the field of sanitation.

The School of Technology functioning under the 2003-established varsity’s Amritapuri campus in Kerala was formally given the go-ahead for carrying out its role in the ‘Reinvent the Toilet Challenge: India’ — a collaborative effort of the Union government and the US-based Bill & Milinda Gates Foundation.

Dr Bipin Nair, dean with the School of Technology functioning near Kollam, received the grant for the multi-crore project that has scientifically proven the novel concept of deploying viral agents which would eliminate pathological and odour agents in faecal matter.

The India-specific programme by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, along with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) which is a Government of Indian Enterprise, is carrying out the 2-million-dollar project equally split with the 2000-incepted Gates Foundation headquartered in Seattle of Washington state.

The grants were announced today by DBT Secretary Prof K Vijay Raghavan, who is Chairman of BIRAC, from a pool of 108 applications which an expert committee shortlisted after “extensive and rigorous” selection.

The function was held in the first evening of a two-day Reinvent the Toilet Fair that showcases innovative products and approaches that aim to brings safe, affordable and sustainable sanitation.

Nurturing the bond of friendship and brotherhood through “STUDENTS EXCHANGE FOR CHANGE 2013-2015” enters the second phase of letter writing organized by NGO - Routes 2 Roots & The Citizens Archive of Pakistan between students of India & Pakistan at Dev Samaj School, Sukhdev Vihar, Okhla, Delhi attempting to bridge borders and scale boundaries between India & Pakistan.

The students were very happy and overwhelmed to hear stories of their friends from Pakistan. On the occasion of the festival of colors, Indian students sent colors to the students of Pakistan further embracing the bond of love and friendship. To further celebrate the festival of holi with their new friends in Pakistan, children wrote their letters in vibrant colors and also decorated beautifully. Children also attached small packets of gulal with their letters a symbol of holi and love.

The program was aimed at inculcating values and cultures amongst students of India & Pakistan towards each other by sowing the bonds of similarities through the prism of our festival Holi.  Festival wishes are shared today from students of India to Pakistan students with bright colours of peace. Bridging the borders and scale boundaries, this fruitful campaign has given a nascent era of prosperity among the nations. 28 BASE students qualify for KVPY fellowship

• The Institution Continues to be the Leader in Karnataka

Bangalore, March 20, 2014: Once again the students of BASE bring outstanding results in Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) examination 2013, a Government of India initiative to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers. 28 students from BASE have qualified in the stage 2 examinations and are eligible for the fellowship. This prestigious scholarship program is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and administered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore). Scholarships are provided (up to the pre-Ph.D. level) to the selected students.

Speaking on the occasion, Vallish Herur, Director of BASE said, “The tradition of creating success in Karnataka continues this year too. We are happy that like every year, this time too many of our students have been selected for the KVPY exam. Green Medicine Day

In memory of Smt. Kasturba Gandhi, who advocated the usage of green medicine, students of GIIS Noida observed a “Green Medicine Day” on 21st February, 2014. Her death anniversary was marked by paying tribute to the great soul through an interactive workshop on usage of green medicine for the GIIS grandparents.


After a traditional welcome, the grandparents were escorted to the Dr. L. M. Singhvi Amphitheatre. The day started with Saraswati Vandana, an offering to the Goddess of knowledge through a classical Bharatnatyam dance recital.

The children of class six conducted a special assembly and introduced the audience to a variety of medicinal plants and explained their benefits for health and fitness through an exciting Quiz session. Fun time kicked off with EduSports putting up an array of sporty team games and every grandpa and grandma joined in. The grandparents were then guided to the cafeteria for tea break where they shared their experiences on the benefits of green medicine by writing on slips of coloured paper given to them.

A presentation on “Green Medicine” was made by Dr. Shoba Sahai, who is also a naturopath and she spoke on medicinal values of Rose, Hibiscus, Onion, Garlic, Ginger, Neem, Tulsi, Aloe vera, Cardamom, Turmeric, Cumin seeds and Fenugreek. She explained the healing power of nature, medicinal plants and herbs and the use of plants for first aid in emergency situations. Her display of herbal cures fascinated the grandparents and grandchildren alike.
Mrs. Nandita Dasgupta, Principal GIIS Noida stressed on the value of grandparents’ teachings and their healing touch that calms and enriches children's lives. She wished that every child could have the benefit of this.

• K. J Somaiya engineering students launch the 'All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)

Mumbai: The students of K.J. Somaiya College of Engineering, unveiled their latest upgraded All Terrain Vehicle (ATV)- Red Shift Car, RSR-14 - capable of traveling on any kind of terrain (eg. Military areas, Mountainous areas, Agricultural fields etc.) The Red Shift Car a single seater, four wheeler drive that runs on petrol using a 305cc engine 10bhp engine would also participate in a national level intercollegiate design competition- BAJA Racing Competition organized by Society of Automotive Engineers at Indore on 20^th- 23^rd February 2014 .This latest version boasts of Better power transmission, All-wheels-locking Brakes system, infinitely adjustable Pneumatic Shock absorbers. Glass fibre for bodyworks-ensures better looks and durability of composites.

Post the inception of Red Shift Racing participated in Auburn, USA, the Team was  ranked 24th for its design overall. It was also the first Indian team to reach the elite group on an international level. Second time round in 2013 the team participated in Baja SAE India for which almost all parts were self-manufactured. The team earned accolades for self-designed Gearbox – a first. It took a grueling of almost a year for the team in designing, manufacturing and testing the Red Shift Car before it was ready for its next challenge at the BAJA Racing Competition in Indore.

BAJA Racing Competition will see participation from 120 colleges who are set to demonstrate their technical expertise and automotive know-how. The competition also sets pace for industry stalwarts to judge and recognize talent at the early age and encourage bussing talent.

The BAJA Racing Competition will test the motor, technical, fuel and cost efficiency etc skill of the Red shift car at the competition. It also provides us an opportunity to go beyond bookish knowledge and gain hands-on experience.
