Mysore 18 March 2014: Hockey Bhopal overcame Delhi 4-0 in the opening match of Pool B to register their first win in the 4th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2014 (Division A) played at Chamundi Vihar Hockey Ground today.
It was Chanda Gupta’s 3 goals which helped Hockey Bhopal take an easy win over Delhi. She scored the first goal in the 9th minute by converting a penalty corner to give her team 1-0 lead in the first half. In the second half, Hockey Bhopal gained momentum in their attack and Chanda Gupta got the second goal for her team in the 47th minute which again was through a penalty corner. In the 60th minute, Chanda Gupta made no mistake in converting another penalty corner for her team. Annu Gurang contributed a lone goal for Hockey Bhopal in the 49th minute.
In another match played today, Punjab defeated Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd 2-1 in Pool D. Jaspreet Kaur gave an early lead to Punjab in the very first minute of the game. The first half of the match ended with Punjab leading 1-0. In the second half, Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd scored through Pranali Patil in the 40th minute to level the score. Captain Rajbir Kaur helped Punjab take 2-1 lead over Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd through field goal scored in the 46th minute. After taking a lead the defense of Punjab team seems strong and they didn’t allow their opposition any scoring chance.
In another match of Pool D, Hockey Odisha easily defeated Bihar 15-0. Topping the Hockey Odisha’s goal-rush was forward Elima Minz who scored five field goals followed by Priyanka Ekka (3) and Mariana Kujur (2) goals while Ambika Toppo, Dimincal Kujur, Rashmita Minz, Priyanka Kujur and Manju Kujur contributed one goal apiece.
In the last match of the day, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy routed Karnataka 8-1 in Pool B. MPHA’s skipper Priyanka Wankhede scored six field goals to help her team win this match.
