In a Pool A match, Air India Sports Promotion Board bagged an easy win over Andhra Pradesh as they out righted the latter with a 3-0 lead till the half time of the match. The first damage of the day for Andhra Pradesh came in as a field goal in the very 5th minute of the match through Osaf Ur Rehman of Air India Sports Promotion Board supported by two more goals in the 20th minute as a field goal by Armaan Qureshi and in the 34th minute as a successful penalty corner conversion through Gaganpreet Singh. Andhra Pradesh defended better in the second half of the game but Air India Sports Promotion Board’s Armaan Qureshi managed to sink in another goal in the 60th minute and contribute in the team’s win with a margin of 4 goals to 0.
In another match of Pool A, played between Association Of Indian Universities and Chandigarh Olympic association, the match witnessed exciting turn of events, where the first goal of the match came in favour of Chandigarh Olympic Association in the 44th minute as a field goal through Preetinder Singh, but lost the battle to Association Of Indian Universities by 2-1. A cut-throat competition engulfed the field as both the teams fought hard to prove their mettle. Chandigarh Olympic Association maintained the 1-0 lead until Gurjindeer Singh of Association Of Indian Universities flicked in a field goal in the 50th minute to level the scores. With just two minutes in hand before the end of the game Association Of Indian Universities’ Gagandeep Singh converted a crucial penalty corner in favour of the team in the 68th minute and helped claim victory over Chandigarh Olympic Association by 2-1.
In a Pool B match, Sports Authority Of India defeated Manipur with a margin of 6 goals to 0. Aiyappa P.R opened the account for Sports Authority Of India in the 8th minute of the match itself and became the highest scorer of the game as he pierced in two more field goals in the 35th and 60th minute. Support from team members in the 32nd minute by Sandeep Kumar Singh, 43rd minute by Raju Pal and in the 67th minute by Faraz Khan helped Sports Authority Of India to register a 6-0 win over Manipur.
In the last match of the day, Punjab stormed past Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy with a 6-1 on board. The first half of the match saw Punjab dominating the game when Ajay Kumar and Karan Pal Singh struck a goal each in the 17th and the 27th minute and took an edge over Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy by 2-0 by the end of the first half. Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy’s Amit Kumar Singh was the only one out of the whole squad who managed to score a goal in the 44th minute which only helped in reducing the goal margin. Alternatively, Punjab sliced in four more goals in the second half to register a 6-1 win.
The player of the tournament for the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) will be presented with a brand new Yamaha Alpha bike.
