Hockey Bhopal defeated Mumbai Hockey Association with final score line of 14-1 in the 9th Match of the 4th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2014 (Division A) here at Bhopal. Bhopal built an early pressure on the opponent as Rashmi Singh scored the first goal in the very first minute of the game. Rashmi went on to score a total of four goals including both opening and closing goal of the match. Bhagyashree Agarwal of Mumbai managed to sneak in a goal in the 18th minute to bring the score to 3-1 in the first half of the match and gave a hint for a tough fight coming up, but team Mumbai failed to keep the momentum and lost with an infamy 14-1 margin.
In another match of Pool A, Odisha defeated Chhattisgarh by a comfortable margin of 12 to 1 goals. This included four penalty corners and eight field goals. Balvinder from Chhattisgarh scored the lone goal in the team’s favour in the 46th minute to bring the score to 8-1. Rest of the attempts by Chhattisgarh went in vain. Odisha’s Captain Lilima Minz and Elin Lakra both were responsible in contributing a total of six goals for the team, with 3 goals each in their kitty, when Lilima Minz stroked in 4th, 27th & 68th minute and Elin Lakra in 21st, 36th & 58th minute of the game.
Maharashtra dominated their Kerala in the pool D match. In an all field goal match Maharashtra defeated Kerala by 7- 0 goals. Vivenda D’costa led the team by scoring 4 out of 7 goals in 23rd, 35th, 56th and 70th minute of the match. Rushkar Shaikh, Payal Chumbale and Captain Pratibha Sawant opf Maharashtra also contributed in taking the goal difference higher and claiming a 7 goals to 0 win over Kerala.
In a close contested match, Hockey Haryana defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy by 2-1. Haryana created early opportunity to lead the first half of the game by 1-0, when Bharti scored the first goal for the team in the 15th minute. Madhya Pradesh converted the penalty corner to level the scores in the 48th minute which came through Shyama Tidgam. Team Haryana bounced back with captain Ritu Rani scoring a field goal in the 64th minute which turned out to be the deciding goal for the match as Haryana defenders did not allow Madhya Pradesh to score any further goals.
Jharkhand defeated Sports Authority of India with a comfortable of 6-0 in a pool C match. Jharkhand took an impressive 3-0 lead by the end of the first half of the match itself with Poonam Barla’s back to back goals in the 14th and 21st minute followed by Binita Xess in the 31st minute. Jharkhand pierced in three more goals in the second half of the match and left Sports Authority Of India in a state of shock with 6-0 win on board.
In a Pool B match, a star studded squad of Railway Sports Promotion Board crippled Uttar Pradesh with a glorious 20-0 win. Where Railway Sports Promotion Board executed striking 8-0 till the end of the first half, they bombarded twelve more goals in the second half of the match and zoomed ahead with a 20-0 win.
