Hockey Odisha and Haryana seal a berth in the finale of the 4th Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) to be played today at Ranchi

  • Hockey Odisha takes the bus to the Finale, beats Punjab 7-3
  • Haryana wins an exciting match against Jharkhand 3-2 via shoot out 

Ranchi, 24 March 2014: The all important semi final matches played during the 4th Hockey India Sub Junior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A), Ranchi was exciting as teams fought it out against each other to seal their places in the finale tomorrow. It was finally Hockey Odisha and Haryana who will be playing against each other for the Championship title tomorrow.

It was almost an evenly contested match between both the teams during the first half with Hockey Odhisha opening its score card in the 11th minute with a field goal coming from Amit Chrmako’s stick. Punjab realising that they cannot allow the opponents to dominate them, finally scored in the 29th minute when the penalty corner opportunity was converted by Arvinder Singh and taking the team to the much required equalizer. Just before going into the break Odisha took the lead again in the 32nd minute when Suraj Minz converted a brilliant pass and going on to score a field goal. The first half results had Hockey Odisha leading with 2-1 on the scoreboard.

In the second half Hocley Odisha upped the ante and scored in the 36th minute with Suraj Minz scoring his second consecutive goal. The very next minute Hockey Odisha struck again and rammed the 4th goal taking another lead in the match. Punjab finally scord its 2nd goal of the match in the 50th minute when Dilpreet Singh scoring through a field goal. Hocjey Odisha managed to score another 3 field goals in the 56th 61st and 60th minute taking the scoreboard to a 7-2 lead. Just before the match ended, Punjab struck again in the 69th minute Harmeet Singh scored the 3rd or for the team. Though this was not enough for Punjab and Hockey Odisha comfortable sealing a place for the finals tomorrow.


The second semi-final saw Haryana taking on Jharkhand. It was an evenly contested match with both tehe teams scoring 2 each at the ends of both the sessions. While the first half was dominated by Haryana and they scored both their goals in this session and which came in the 4th and 7th minute. While the first was a field goal by Naveen the other was a penalty corner goal by Mandeep Mor. Going into the second half Haryana was leading by 2-0. Here on Jhrakhand made a complete comeback in the match when they scored their first goal in the 35th minute right after the match started and was converted by Sudhir Munda. Jhrakhand scored their second and the equaliser goal in the 46th minute which was a penalty strike and which was taken by Buddu Tuti and successfully converted. With 2 each both teams tried scoring the lead but were unsuccessful in doing so till the end of the match because of which the match went on to penalty shoot out. Both teams under pressure it was Haryana who kept its cool and won the shootout 3-2 and going on to the finals today.
