Hockey India 4th Sub Junior Men National Hockey Championship kick starts today at Vadodara

  • -Sports Authority of India beats Bihar 2-1
  • -Delhi takes a convincing win over Puducherry, scored 8-2
  • -Himachal Pradesh won against Citizens Hockey XI 3-0
  • -Bengal Hockey Association beat Goa 5-0
  • - Hockey Gujarat beats Tripura 12-1

Displaying DSC_0364.JPGNew Delhi, 10 May 2014: The 4th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship commenced today at Vadodara with all teams looked all geared up to take on the challenges of the opponents.

It was Sports Authority of India which emerged the winner of their first match in the Championship wherein they beat Bihar with a small margin of 1 goal.  But it was Bihar who opened the scorecard in the 18th minute of the match with Samir Minz managed a field goal taking the team to the much required lead. Bihar maintained the lead all through the first half and almost through the second half too. But Sports Authority of India finally broke through the defense of Bihar in the 66th minuet through a penalty corner which the team bagged, with the equalizing goal came through the stick of Vishal Sharma. This shocked team Bihar and they tried making a comeback but the opponents were too motivated to allow them to go through their defense again. Sports Authority of India scored the winning goal in the 70th minute which was a brilliant field goal from Gurtej Singh. with this Sports Authority of India registered their first win in the very first match, while Bihar narrowly missed out on this match.

In another match it was Delhi which gave a tough team to Puducherry and winning the match with 8 goals Puducherry’s 2. While Puducherry looked in complete form and in control of the match from the moment the match started and they scored their first goal in the 5th minute when Surjith scored through a field goal. Post that the team’s weak defense gave them in as Delhi started its onslaught in the 18th minute when Arun Kumar scored a field goal for the team helping them to equalize. Going into the second half both the teams were on an equal platform of 1 goal each. From here it was anyone’s game with Delhi having its own game plan in store for the opponents. Delhi scored 2 back to back goals in the 43rd and 44th minute taking the scorecard to 3-1 with Delhi leading. Puducherry tried making a comeback and in the 45thminute the team scored its 2nd goal and which again came through the stick of Surjith. Hereon Delhi went on a goal scoring spree and added another 5 goals in the 49th, 52nd, 59th, 62nd and 67th minute giving them a win with a huge margin over the opponents.

In the third match it was Himachal Pradesh who dominated the entire match against Citizens Hockey XI and scored 3 goals to 0. Himachal Pradesh maintained its attack on the opponents throughout the match with not once allowing them to score a single goal. Himachal Pradesh scored the 1st goal in the 16th minute with Harish Kumar scoring through a field goal. Going into the break the team was leading 1-0. In the second half the team yet again scored with back to back goals in the 62nd minute and 63rd minute giving them a convincing first win in the championship.

The first day of the championship saw Bengal Hockey Association taking on Goa with the former beating the later with 5 goals to 0. Bengal started its goal scoring run in the 25th minute with Nitish Nevpani scoring a brilliant field goal. This was the sole goal scored in the entire first half. in the second half while Goa did have their chances to score but they were unsuccessful in doing so. On the other hand Bengal took the lead in the 49th minute when Rahul Dev Shaw scored through a penalty corner opportunity. Nitish Nevpani again scored in the 54th minute taking the team to a 3 goal lead. It was captain Nadim Hossen who scored the final 2 goals for the team in the 63rd and 66thminute. While his first goal was through a field goal his second was a penalty strike which the team got.

In the last match of the day Hockey Gujarat won its first match against Tripura 12-1. Hockey Gujarat scored 5 goals in the very first half as compared to the sole goal of the opponents. In the second half the team went on to add another 7 goals taking a convincing win over Tripura.
