Friends of our neighbourhood

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.” - Charles Dickens

To sensitize the little ones on the importance of community helpers in our daily life and in the society at large, the Pre-primary teachers of GIIS Noida organized an exhibition for the community helpers within the school premises. A special area was allocated to each member to display their tools and the students visited each booth to see the exhibits. The participants comprised of an electrician, a sweeper, a gardener, a cobbler, a guard, a rickshaw puller, a tailor and a carpenter.

Displaying Cobbler.JPGThey introduced themselves to the students and explained to them the use of each tool and the importance of the work that they do. Through visual learning and interaction with the community helpers, the children were able to comprehend their work better and were engaged in various exercises.

Students learnt about the different jobs and responsibilities people have in our communities. The teachers spoke about the role of firemen and police officers who help to keep community members safe. Doctors, nurses and dentists  who help keep people healthy. Drivers and conductors who transport people from place to place. They were also introduced to the role of teachers and librarians who shape the minds of the generation.

The objective of this exhibition was to spread awareness in children about the people who help us, the tools they use and the problems we face without them and to make children aware and understand the importance of community helpers in our daily life.

This activity gave the children an opportunity to become more involved with the community.
