Delhi, 15th May 2014: Delhi,
Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, Gujarat and Sports Authority of India are the
four teams who proved their mettle in their respective matches to
claim a berth each in the semi-finals of the 4th Sub-Junior
National Men Hockey Championship 2014 (Division B), which is being
played at Vadodara, Gujarat. The semi-final is scheduled to be held
on the 17th May 2014.
In
a Pool B match played today, Delhi maintained their consistent
winning spree as they defeated Citizens Hockey XI by 5-2. The first
goal of the match came through Delhi’s Kuldeep as a field goal in
the 15th minute of the game which was soon answered
back by Citizen Hockey XI’s Rohit Ghrai in the 17th minute
as he successfully converted a penalty corner opportunity and
levelled the scores at 1-1. With a span of four minutes, Delhi’s
Nitin Ram and Kuldeep stroked in a goal each which helped Delhi in
taking the lead in the match by 3-1 by the end of the first half.
Citizen Hockey XI’s Parvez Alam reduced the margin to 3-2 when he
pierced in a field goal in the 42nd minute, but
Citizen Hockey Xi’s hopes of levelling and taking the lead were
short lived as Delhi chopped in two more goals in the 53rd and
70th minute through Kuldeep and Arun Kumar,
respectively. With three goals to his credit, Kuldeep became the top
scorer of the match and helped Delhi to claim a 5-2 win over Citizen
Hockey Xi and enter the semi-finals.
In
another match of Pool A, Sports Authority of India registered a
splendid win over Jammu & Kashmir by 6-1 and qualify for the
semi-finals of the 4th Sub-Junior National Men Hockey
Championship 2014 (Division B). The match saw its first goal coming
as late as in the 28th minute through Sports
Authority of India’s Prabhjot Singh as a penalty corner conversion,
which was immediately replied to by Jammu and Kashmir’s Suraj Singh
Jasrotia in the 30th minute of the game and leveled
the scores at 1-1. Due to a successful penalty corner in the
35th minute by Sports Authority of India’s Sahil
Gill, the first half ended with a 2-1 lead for the team. After the
tough fight in the first half, the second half of the match saw
Sports Authority of India showering a total of four goals from the
45th minute till the 63rd minute and
did not give Jammu & Kashmir even the slightest opportunity to
reduce the margin. Gurtej Singh of Sports Authority Of India
contributed two field goals in the 45th and
48th minute, followed by teammates Michael Topno in
the 58th minute and Vishal Sharma in the 63rd minute
to mark a 6-1 victory over Jammu & Kashmir and qualify for the
semis.
In
the last match of the day of Pool B, Rajasthan edge past Puducherry
with a mere 2-1 on board. Where, the first goals came from Puducherry
in the 17th minute of game through V. Vinodhan, it was levelled by
Rajasthan’s Vikram Rathor in the 30th minute and closed the first
half at 1-1. It was Vikram Rathor again in the second half who
managed to sneak in the winning goal in the 55th minute and sealed
the victory for Rajasthan with 2-1.
