Chandigarh Olympic Association and Hockey Odisha make their entry with a win in the 4th Hockey Sub-Junior National Championship 2014 (Division A)

New Delhi, 20th May 2014: Chandigarh Olympic Association, Hockey Odisha make a challenging entry by defeating Assam 18-0 and Bengal Hockey Association 30-0 respectively, on the Day-2 of the 4th Sub-Junior Women National Hockey Championship (Division A) being played at Pune, Maharashtra and registered their first win along with Jharkhand and Hockey Maharashtra, today.
 
In a Pool D match, Hockey Odisha made a loud entry in the championship by overpowering their challenger Bengal Hockey Association with a mind blowing 30-0 score on board. Hockey Odisha started the beating as early as in the 1st minute of the game, which came through Elima Minz, who went on to become the top scorer of the match by further penetrating nine more goals during the match. The second highest scorer was Hockey Odisha’s Mariana Kujur who contributed a total of eight goals followed by Sarojini Ekka’s six goals making her the third top scorer of the match. Hockey Odisha unleashed all weapons from the very start of the game and folded the first half with a 13-0 on board. The second half of the match saw Hockey Odisha showing no mercy on Bengal Hockey Association as they further went on to score seventeen more goals. Bengal Hockey Association seemed lost and stunned during the entire match and could not do much to save themselves from suffering with such a huge loss.
 
In another match of Pool D match, Chandigarh Olympic Association made a grand entry to warn the other teams to be wary of them as they smash Assam with an enormous 18-0 margin to register their first win in the championship. Chandigarh Olympic Association opened their account in the very 2nd minute of the game through Saroj’s field goal. Saroj further went on to pierce in ten more goals alone after that, contributing a total of eleven goals and became the highest scorer of the tournament till now. By the end of the first half, Chandigarh Olympic Association dominated the match with a margin of 7-0 on board with help of five goals coming from Saroj herself, supported by teammates Lakhwinder Kaur and Manisha in 9th and 14th minute, respectively. Assam’s repeated efforts to stop Chandigarh Olympic Association in the second half failed miserably as they got pounded by another eleven goals, out of which Saroj alone contributed a total of six goals and was followed up by Manisha in 40th and 63rd minute, Kirandeep Kaur in the 42nd minute and Sharmila in the 44th and 67th minute of the game. With a score of 18-0 on board Chandigarh Olympic Association made an impactful and challenging statement in the championship.
 
In a Pool C match, Jharkhand defeated Uttar Pradesh by 7-0 in their first match of the championship. The first gola for Jharkhand came as early as in the 4th minute of the game as a field goal through Pinki Ekka, which was followed by Nisha Rani Aind, Pramila Soreng and Alka Dung Dung in the 18th, 28th and 31st minute of the match respectively, to seal the first half at 4-0. Uttar Pradesh failed to better their game in the second half also, as they suffered three additional goals after the half time. It was Captain Sitamani Topno in the 41st minute and Pramila Soreng in the 64th and 69th minute who took the total for Jharkhand up to a 7-0, with Promila Soreng becoming the top scorer of the match with a total of three goals to her credit.
 
In another match of Pool C, played between Hockey Maharashtra and Delhi, a tough fight was witness as both the teams made each other struggle throughout the game. It was Delhi who scored the first goal of the match in the 12th minute as a field goal, coming through Sarita Tiwari. The levelling goal from Hockey Maharashtra came in the 28th minute when Yogeshwari Wadekar sneaked in a field goal and matched the score on board at 1-1. The second half of the match saw a comparatively tougher fight as both the teams denied each other from all the opportunities from scoring any goals until in the 60th minute when Hockey Maharashtra’s Prajakta Kidgaonkar cashed on the opportunity and sliced a field goal to take the lead by 2-1 and register their first win in the tournament.
